Where We Work in Philadelphia and Nearby

We work from our Frankford office across the whole city and a short way over the county line. Here is what the work looks like in each part of it, and where our coverage stops.

The Lower Northeast and the River Wards

Our office is on Edmund Street in Frankford, so the closest part of our coverage is the Lower Northeast: Frankford itself, Mayfair, Tacony, Holmesburg, Wissinoming and Oxford Circle. Most of the work here is on brick rowhomes and twins from the 1920s through the 1950s, which means flat rear roofs, slate or slate-era front slopes, chimney flashing and plenty of old gutters.

South along the river, we work in Bridesburg, Port Richmond, Kensington and Fishtown, where tight blocks of flat-roofed rowhomes sit next to new infill construction. Flat roof repairs, coatings and full membrane replacements make up most of those calls, along with roof decks and new-construction roofing on infill lots.

The Far Northeast

North of Cottman Avenue the houses change: Rhawnhurst, Fox Chase, Burholme, Bustleton, Somerton, Parkwood, Torresdale and Morrell Park are mostly post-war twins, singles and newer rows. That means more pitched shingle roofs, attic ventilation work, ice dams in hard winters and gutter systems carrying water off larger roofs. Many of these houses are now on their second or third roof, so full replacements and deck repairs are a big share of the work.

Center City, South, North and West Philadelphia

We cover the dense rowhome core as well: Center City, South Philadelphia, North Philadelphia and West Philadelphia. Work here is mostly flat roofs, parapets and coping, commercial and mixed-use buildings, and multi-family roofs. Access and parking shape these jobs more than anywhere else, so we plan the material delivery and dumpster before the start date. On blocks where a dumpster cannot sit on the street, debris goes straight into a truck instead.

The Northwest

In Chestnut Hill, Mount Airy, Germantown, Manayunk and Roxborough the housing is older and more varied: stone twins and singles, steep slate roofs, porch roofs and bays, and houses on hills where gutters and downspouts carry a lot of water. Slate repair, metal porch roofs and chimney flashing are common requests, and so are skylight repairs on renovated top floors.

Over the County Line

Just outside the city, we work in Bensalem, Levittown and the rest of Lower Bucks County, in the Montgomery County communities along the city's northern and western edge, including Cheltenham, Abington, Jenkintown, Lower Merion, Norristown and King of Prussia, and in Delaware County's inner suburbs such as Upper Darby. Suburban roofs there are mostly pitched shingle and slate, with rowhouse flat roofs in Upper Darby and Norristown.

Across the river, we cover the New Jersey towns closest to the bridges: Camden, Cherry Hill and the rest of Camden County, western Burlington County around Willingboro and Cinnaminson, and northern Gloucester County around Deptford. Each county and the bigger towns have their own pages below.

Where Our Coverage Ends

Our coverage stops short of Chester County, upper Bucks County and the New Jersey shore towns. If your address is close to one of our edges, call with the street and we will tell you straight away whether it is inside the area we cover.

Emergency calls inside the city are dispatched first, because that is where most of our work is. Scheduled work such as replacements, inspections and gutter projects covers the whole area above.

Permits Inside and Outside the City

Inside Philadelphia, roof replacements go through the city's Department of Licenses and Inspections, and most re-roofs qualify for its EZ re-roofing permit. Historic-listed properties and jobs that add a new opening, such as a skylight, go through a fuller review, and properties on the Philadelphia Register need Historical Commission approval for exterior changes.

Over the county line, every Pennsylvania township and borough runs its own building department, and New Jersey towns enforce the state's Uniform Construction Code through their own construction offices, each with their own forms and fees. We check the right office for your address before the job is scheduled, so the permit is in hand before the tear-off starts.
